MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE ~ The church welcomed guest speaker Matt Privett to our pulpit for both the morning and evening worship services today. In the morning Bro Privett brought a message entitled "The Sovereign Lord Saves Leprous Hearts", the story of Naaman from 2 Kings 5:1-19. At that time Syria was the reigning power and the northern kingdom of Israel was in subjection to their rule. Naaman was the commander in chief of Syria, a very important man but a leper. One of his captured servants was a young lady who loved the Lord and witnessed to Naaman, telling of the prophet Elisha. Naaman goes to Elisha but while lifted up in pride, Naaman is offended by what he perceived to be Elisha’s lack of respect towards him and almost returns home without being healed. But his servants reason with Naaman and after obeying the prophet, Naaman experiences both a physical healing of his leprosy and a spiritual healing of his "leprous heart". The story is a wonderful word-picture of our Sovereign Lord's rule over men's hearts and His ability to save sinners who humble themselves before Him. For those who already are saved, it too shows how we often put the Lord in a "box" and are surprised when He answers our prayers in unexpected ways. A wonderful lesson for us all.

EVENING WORSHIP SERVICE ~ Guest speaker Matt Privett spoke from Col 3:1-4 on a message entitled "Orbiting Christ: The Reality of the Risen Life". The gist of the book of Colossians is that while false teachers were adding things to Christ (such as the law, special days, special diets and the like), Paul wrote to teach that all believers need is Jesus Christ Himself. In this passage the main thing Paul was trying to get across is that life revolves around the Lord Jesus Christ and not ourselves. We have a RESPONSIBILITY to live a risen life where we are commanded to "keep seeking" the things above, not things of this earth. The RESOURCE for the believer to live a risen life is Christ Himself. Our life is hid with Christ at this present time, not just a future reality. But this also does have a future application when our risen life will be REVEALED when Christ appears in glory. A good message of submission to Christ in our day-to-day living.

Expository Messages on the First Epistle of John

Interim Pastor Mark B. Stevenson preached a series of expository messages on the First Epistle of John. Bro Mark entitiled this series "Fellowship With Christ" and it provides a very practical exposition of what the beloved apostle John wrote to the first century Christians. While this epistle may be little in size, it has much to offer believers in our walk with our Living Lord.

Larry McCord brought a series of lessons to the Adult Sunday School class during Spring ~ Fall of 2009 using J. C. Ryle's book "Practical Religion" as a guide. Although Bro Ryle wrote this approximately 130 years ago, his observations are as up-to-date as today's newspaper. A thorough look as to how believers are to live out our lives for Christ. Heart-searching, warm and practical.

Stern Warning Against False Teachers

Larry McCord brought a message Sunday evening Nov 15th entitled "A Warning About False Prophets and Teachers" from 2 Peter 2.This was a heavy message with much application to our present culture. Throughout it all the importance of a personal knowledge of the Word of God was stressed as the only proper protection against false doctrine. Peter shows in this chapter that the false teachers will be judged harshly, using such illustrations as Sodom and Noah's flood. Peter then continues by giving characteristics of the false teachers, portraying them as both liars and deniers. Peter closes the chapter by the warning that some of these false teachers will come from amongst those who profess salvation yet have never truly known Christ. A stern warning which should be heard and heeded by all.

Detailed Look at the Lamb of God
in the Lord's Passover

Allen Lefkovitz led the prayer meeting Wednesday April 8th and presented a lesson on the Passover with special emphasis upon the Passover Lamb. Bro Lefkovitz has been providentially prepared to present such a lesson. His uncle was a Rabbi and his father was a Levite raised in an Orthodox Jewish home. Bro Allen's father became a believer as a result of the witness of Isaiah 53 from his mother-in-law (Bro Allen's grandmother). Bro Allen's father spent the remainder of his life teaching Christians about the Jewish roots of the New Testament. This included teaching about the Passover to countless churches as Bro Allen was growing up. Bro Allen continues to observe the Passover annually in his own home with a Christian emphasis.

The message is entitled "The Lord's Passover" and is very instructive in how it connects the historical Exodus from Egypt and the institution of the Passover with our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lamb of God.

With apologies: there were some difficulties in the recording of the message and there are a few places where the lesson goes blank for a couple seconds. These were cleaned up as much as possible and the bulk of the message came through fine. Please bear with the technical difficulties and do not let that stop you from downloading and listening to this excellent message.

CD Available of Pastor Brown's Retirement Celebration

The Retirement Celebration of Pastor William I. Brown was held at Covenant Baptist Church on Friday, April 17th, 2009. The attendance was high and the congregational singing was loud and joyful. The special music and the testimonies were all well done. The focus of the evening was properly placed upon the faithfulness of our God for His provision of His servant for the past 53 years.

The evening was recorded and is available by clicking here: "Pastor Brown's Retirement Celebration". A couple notes regarding the recording. Since the evening was recorded just as it happened, there are a few times when there are gaps of silence as the singers would position themselves, etc. The entire celebration was recorded which filled an entire CD, therefore the download size is 18.7M. Also, unfortunately, the celebration proceedings took longer than the length available on the CD, therefore the last 10 minutes or so of the celebration was not recorded.
