The church was founded in 1956 and remains faithful to missions, the doctrines of grace, and the Kingship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While placing strong importance on doctrinal teaching and expository preaching, the main emphasis of our church is upon the worship of the resurrected, living Christ.

Take a few moments to peruse our site. If we can be of any spiritual assistance, feel free to contact the church either by phone, snail-mail or e-mail. You may also e-mail Pastor Matt directly at pastormatt@covenantbaptistdayton.org.

Behind a Frowning Providence - a message by Pastor Stevenson

Behind a Frowning Providence

Interim Pastor Stevenson brought a very practical message in his series of the life of Elijah entitled "Behind A Frowning Providence" using 1 Kings 17:17-24 as his text. William Cowper caught the gist of what we see in this text in a song he wrote in 1774 entitled “God Moves in a Mysterious Way”,
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
In this text we see the widow’s devastating loss (v17) when her only son died, leaving her (humanly speaking) with no provider, no protection and no hope for the future. Here we are reminded that nothing in this life is intrinsically secure. We then see the widow’s anguish over her son (v18) where out of the depths of emotion she first blames Elijah and then herself. Elijah responds to her outburst with compassion (v19,20) by not trying to defend himself nor giving her a lecture in providence but by gently taking her son aside and then giving himself to prayer. In this prayer we see that even this man of God did not have the answers as Elijah himself asks the Lord “Why?” But the question of “why” is followed by Elijah’s demonstration of great faith (v21,22) as he asks for the life to return to this youth, a request unprecedented in the Word of God. The Lord answers the prayer of Elijah and we see the purpose for this trial revealed (v23,24) as the faith of the widow is strengthen and increased. An excellent message for us all since all believers WILL experience the silence of heaven from time to time as the Lord seeks to deepen and strengthen our own faith.

Expository Messages on the First Epistle of John

Interim Pastor Mark B. Stevenson preached a series of expository messages on the First Epistle of John. Bro Mark entitiled this series "Fellowship With Christ" and it provides a very practical exposition of what the beloved apostle John wrote to the first century Christians. While this epistle may be little in size, it has much to offer believers in our walk with our Living Lord.

Be sure to listen to the entire series. The sermons are thorough yet practical, touching upon even the most difficult of passages while not laboring in an unbalanced manner. A fine series not only for study but also for personal meditation and worship.

Stern Warning Against False Teachers

Larry McCord brought a message Sunday evening Nov 15th entitled "A Warning About False Prophets and Teachers" from 2 Peter 2.This was a heavy message with much application to our present culture. Throughout it all the importance of a personal knowledge of the Word of God was stressed as the only proper protection against false doctrine. Peter shows in this chapter that the false teachers will be judged harshly, using such illustrations as Sodom and Noah's flood. Peter then continues by giving characteristics of the false teachers, portraying them as both liars and deniers. Peter closes the chapter by the warning that some of these false teachers will come from amongst those who profess salvation yet have never truly known Christ. A stern warning which should be heard and heeded by all.

Peter warns of false prophets, wolves who come in sheep's clothing

The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, Acts 2

The Gift of Tongues

Much discussion and dispute is made in today's Christian culture concerning the importance and relevance of the Gift of Tongues. Is it a heavenly language or is it a foreign language, unknown to the speaker but understandable by foreigners? Is it a prayer language or a gift given to enable the spread of the gospel to peoples of foreign languages? Did the gift cease with the Apostolic era or is it present today? These questions and more are considered in the study entitled "The Gift of Tongues ~ The Importance of Being Understood" by Michael Meadows. Special attention is given to the word 'tongue' itself and its usage in the NT, as well as a special look at Acts 2, Isaiah 28 and 1 Corinthians 14. A fine study examining what the scriptures say relating to this miraculous gift from the Holy Spirit.

Murals Praising our God Painted in the Children's Classrooms

Covenent Baptist Church has been greatly blessed recently by having murals painted in four of our children's Sunday School classrooms. These murals greatly add to the beauty of these rooms and each are very age-appropriate. They were painted by Mrs. Irene Parent of the Creative Wall Expression company. The Parent family attended our church several years ago and have remained faithful friends even though they have moved out of the Dayton area. We are thankful to God for the abilities and talents He has given. We also praise our God just for the ability to appreciate beauty such as these murals.

If any church in the greater Dayton ~ Cincinnati area would be interested in having a mural painted on a wall, they may contact Creative Wall Expression at 937-776-3650. The teachers of each of our classes got together and chose a picture as a guide for each of the murals, and Creative Wall Expression was able to place those pictures onto the walls (free-hand paintings, not by projection). The end results are beautiful and a blessing to behold.

Below are pictures of the murals. You may click on each picture to have a higher-resolution picture open for more detail.
